Early Puritan Lifestyle.
The Puritans were not very tolerant people. It was against the law for them not to attend Sunday worship.
The Puritans were expected to work hard and to hide their emotions. Puritans were very reserved and rigid people. They lived in harsh conditions and had a lot of challenges though out there life,
The Puritans had a lot of discussions about the literature within the bible. They were encouraged to write there own poetry that had religion involved in it.
As Puritans were very religious people they were expected to attend the meeting on the Sabbath and to read the bible. They believed that if you didn’t read the bible then you were worshiping the devil.
When the Puritans went to church the men and women sat on opposite sides of the church. They believed that all for all sins you commit you should be punished. For example, sleeping in the church and stealing food.
Puritans believed that God does everything for a reason and if someone is sick or a crop has failed, therefore they don’t help.
They believed that the Devil was as real as God and that Satan would select the weakest individuals such as women and children to carry out his work.
It was part of the Puritan code of conformity, that anyone that had been accused for witchcraft would be classed as social outcasts. Anyone that believed in Satan would be considered a witch and would be punished by death.
